Description
1940’s German Cigar Press Mould by Franz Geiger of Oberweier.
1940’s hand-crafted solid wood 20 cigar press mould. Stamped “Franz Geiger” with “Oberweier” (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). Mould number 34 with further numbers carved to the side. Dated 1949. In good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and all pegs intact. Lovely patina. Superb country-house decor.
Early cigar press moulds, often crafted from hardwoods, worked by compressing newly hand-bunched fillers into uniform, rounded shapes. The filler was placed in the bottom half’s troughs, covered with the top half, and clamped in a mechanical press. These tools consisted of two matching pegged wooden blocks. Each half contained a series of carved, shallow, tapered channels that defined the final shape (like Corona or Robusto).
Size: 55.5 x 10 x 7cm
