Antique German Cigar Press Mould by Carl Intelmann of Bad Zwischenahn.
Late 19th / early 20th Century hand-crafted solid wood 20 cigar press mould. Stamped “Carl Intelmann Kom. Ges.” with “Bad Zwischenahn” (Lower Saxony, Germany) and serial no. 20601. Mould number 34 with further numbers carved to the side. In good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and all pegs intact. Lovely patina. Superb country-house decor.
Antique cigar press moulds, often crafted from hardwoods, worked by compressing newly hand-bunched fillers into uniform, rounded shapes. The filler was placed in the bottom half’s troughs, covered with the top half, and clamped in a mechanical press. These tools consisted of two matching pegged wooden blocks. Each half contained a series of carved, shallow, tapered channels that defined the final shape (like Corona or Robusto).
